What is Plasma?

Plasma is a hot, ionized gas. Unlike ordinary gases, plasma conducts electricity, creates magnetic fields, and has coherent characteristics that allow it to be controlled and concentrated, which is key to the effectiveness of Plasma Pen treatments. Inside the Plasma Pen, voltage between two electrodes is released to produce an arc of ionized nitrogen plasma about 1mm above the skin.

What is a Plasma Pen?

The Plasma Pen is an FDA approved device that creates tiny points of trauma to tighten and regenerate the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. The pinpoint accuracy of the Plasm Pen allows areas such as the upper and lower eyelids that were previously unreachable by non-surgical methods to be treated.

What does Plasma do to the skin?

The energized plasma creates micro-trauma at the surface of the skin and heats the deeper dermis tissue. This heating stimulates structures known as fibroblasts to produce new collagen that forms the scaffolding of our skin and provides support and elasticity. As the micro-traumas heal, skin fibers contract, shorten, and tighten to eliminate wrinkles and produce a more even complexion. The production of new collagen firms and plumps the treated area to provide smoother, fuller skin.

Treatment Expectations

Pre-treatment

Avoid sun exposure and tanning bed use for 3-4 weeks prior to appointment (no tan). No recent surgical or cosmetic procedures.

During treatment

Expect 2 hour minimum appointment time. Procedure is slightly uncomfortable, a numbing agent will be applied prior to treatment to reduce discomfort.

Post treatment

Aftercare is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART of the treatment. DO NOT PICK OR RUB OFF CARBON CRUSTS. Crusts will fall off after 5-7 days. Apply aftercare products on treated area as indicated. Protect skin from the sun for4-8 weeks. Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and tanning beds until carbon crusts fall off. Do not use any products containing alcohol. Do not use makeup until after the carbon crusts are gone. Maximum results will be achieved 8-10 weeks after treatment. Dependent on client skin and desired degree of correction, treatment may be repeated after 8-10 weeks.

Three Phases of Skin Healing

Phase 1

Inflammatory response.

1-5 days

Phase 2

Regenerative phase.

5-28 days (collagen synthesis phase)

Phase 3

New collagen production.

Up to 8 weeks.

Possible side effects:

This procedure is very safe with side effects experienced rarely. Side effects that could occur are: Inflammation, scarring, or minor change in skin pigmentation. It is essential to avoid the sun and use the recommended after care products for maximum positive results

Results

Results of the plasma treatment are permanent and may be visible for years. However, the aging process is continuous and thus the skin continues to age everyday after the procedure. Aging is a dynamic process and there are many factors effecting each individual patient such as: diet, lifestyle, genetics, and sun exposure. Therefore, realistic expectations will be discussed during the consultation. As with any good skin care regimen, maintenance and consistency are paramount, best results are achieved through regular treatments.
